Women’s Basketball Escapes with First Conference Win

The Lancaster Bible College Women's Basketball team had their third straight United East Conference contest on Wednesday night beating Penn St. Brandywine, 62-54, after a second half comeback. The Chargers improve to 4-5 overall and 1-2 in conference while the Lions drop to 1-6 overall and 0-2 in conference.

How It Happened: It was the Chargers that threw the first punch rushing to a 11-4 lead after Jenna Dombach knocked in a jumper. However, it was the Lions that were able to reclaim the lead 13-11 just before the end of the first period.

Keeping their momentum, it was the Lions who grew their lead to as much as six points before the Chargers stormed back to take another lead at 18-17. Just as it was in the first period, the Lions clawed their way back to a 26-24 halftime lead.

It was nearly 20 second half points behind Dombach, Calderon, and Wenger that led to the Chargers retaking the lead after the third quarter. Back to back layups from Keilani Araniva pushed the lead to 43-39. The Chargers were able to push their lead to as much as 11 points after an offensive showcase leading to a 62-54 victory.

By the Numbers: The Chargers shot 33-percent from the field, 11-percent from three, and 66-percent from the free throw line… the Lions were 30-percent from the field, 12-percent from the three, and 61-percent from the line… ­­­the Chargers had 11 fast break points to the Lions four… Serene Calderon had a game high 19 points and six assists… Rachel Nolt added 13 points and Jenna Dombach had 12 points… Sierra Diawara had 13 points for the Lions.
