Women's Basketball Hunter Gerber

Iwais, Dombach Nab United East All-Conference Honors

The United East Conference announced the 2023-24 Women's Basketball Major Award Winners and All-Conference teams on Thursday afternoon with two Chargers being named to first and second team. Senior Alaysha Iwais was deemed All-Conference First Team while fellow senior Jenna Dombach earned All-Conference Second Team.

Iwais had another stat-stuffing season averaging 12.8 points per game, 4.4 assists per game, 4.5 rebounds per game, and 1.8 steals per game. The guard from West Palm Beach, Florida finished fourth overall in the conference for assists per game and seventh in assist to turnover ratio (1.2). Iwais had a highly decorated career as a Charger with this being her third All-Conference nod. She finished her career with 886 points and 368 assists, ranking her second in Charger program history for assists.

"So proud of the season Lay had this year. Whether it was pushing the pace, setting up her teammates, or scoring it herself, Lay was our spark plug all season long. Any time there is a new coach that comes in there is a huge learning curve but that is especially true for a team's point guard. Lay handled the transition from one system to the next as well as you could hope and helped transform the team from one of the slower teams in the country (ranked 332 in pace of play for 2022-2023) to one of the fastest in the country (ranked 16 in pace of play for 2023-2024). Well-deserved recognition and honor for Alaysha Iwais!" – Head Coach Ryan Carpenter

Dombach, the other piece of the 1-2 punch with Iwais, averaged a team-best 14.6 points per game and 4.1 rebounds per game. The senior from Quarryville, Pa. sunk 54 three-pointers, hitting an average of 2.2 per game and sitting her in fifth in the conference. Dombach finished her career with 911 career points and 135 career three-pointers, ranking her seventh in program history.

"Shooters shoot and that's exactly what Jenna did for us this year. She was our leading scorer on the season, and we would turn to her whenever we needed to get off a dry spell and she typically delivered! She was one of the best shooters in conference play this year and finished 2nd in made 3s per game during conference play at 2.5 and finished the season with the 7th most made 3s in a career. Well-deserved recognition and honor for Jenna Dombach!" – Head Coach Ryan Carpenter

The Chargers finished the 2023-24 season 8-17 overall and 6-6 in the United East, falling in the United East Volt Division Semifinal, 85-69.
