The Lancaster Bible College Women's Soccer team traveled to the Goucher Gophers on Tuesday night for the last of their non-conference slate. Finding themselves down 2-0 early in the second half, the Chargers stormed back behind two goals from junior
Janae Bergey to draw with the Gophers 2-2. The Chargers move to 1-2-4 overall while the Gophers are now 2-4-2 overall.
How It Happened: The Chargers found themselves down early as the Gophers scored just 16-minutes into the game. Despite the deficit, the Chargers looked for every opportunity to equalize the game putting pressure on the home team but not getting anything to go.
It was the Gophers again who found the net 2:40 into the second half. Down 2-0, the Chargers had their work cut out for them but that didn't stop the offensive attack. The Chargers garnered a penalty kick in the 52
nd minute that would be saved by the Gophers goalie only to score just six minutes later as junior
Janae Bergey got a great ball from freshman
Zoe Beers.
Feeling the momentum begin to shift, the Chargers excitement translated into several scoring opportunities. It was in the 71
st minute that Bergey scored her second goal of the game after a corner kick from
Leah Perreault. The Chargers had several more opportunities including a great look in the last minute of the game but none turned successful as they went on to tie 2-2.
From the Coach: "It was an exciting game! Our team showed a ton of grit to come from behind tonight," said Head Coach
Jake Warren.
"We played our hearts out and almost came away with a game winner."
