The Lancaster Bible College Women's Basketball team suffered a 74-65 defeat to the Gators of Notre Dame (Md.) on Wednesday night after a 45-point second half from the visitors. The Chargers fall to 6-9 overall and 3-4 in the United East while the Gators improve to 5-10 overall and 4-4 in conference.
How It Happened: It was neck and neck play for the first quarter as
Rachel Nolt got things going for the Chargers to start the game. The Gators found themselves up 9-2 early but the Chargers responded swiftly taking a 14-13 lead to end the quarter on buckets from Nolt and
Keilani Araniva.
The Chargers kept pace going into the second quarter as they rattled off an incredible 18-0 run highlighted by a three-pointer from
Jenna Dombach to seal the run. With two minutes left in the first half the Gators began to chip away little by little eventually bringing it within five points to end the half, 34-29.
A 20-9 third quarter put the Chargers behind by six points for the first time since the start of the first quarter, 49-43. A three-pointer from
Serene Calderon at the start of the fourth quarter brought the game to within three points but the Gators were relentless in the paint getting several layups to go. The Chargers got the deficit to within seven points several more times, but it wasn't enough as the Gators went on to win 74-65.
By the Numbers: The Chargers shot 41-percent from the field, 38-percent from three, and 66-percent from the free throw line… the Gators were 58-percent from the field, 50-percent from three, and 66-percent form the line… the Chargers forced 24 turnovers and had 20 assists… Dombach finished with a double-double with 21 points and 10 assists adding three steals…  Calderon had 15 points and
Isabella Eufemia chipped in 10 points… Amani Watts had a game high 31 points and 13 rebounds for the Gators.
