Chargers Down Regent 1-0 in Final Non-Conference Bout

The Lancaster Bible College Men's Soccer team made the long trip down to Virginia Beach, Va. for a non-conference matchup with Regent on Monday night, coming away with a 1-0 victory. The Chargers improve to 8-5-3 overall and 4-2-1 in the United East while the Royals fall to 3-10-1 overall.

How it Happened:
The Chargers drew a corner kick four minutes into the game but could not score, with junior Dan Marcroft taking the first shot of the game that missed wide right. In a seven-minute span during the middle of the half, the Chargers had three shots on goal for saves including two from junior Zach Coryell, with junior goalkeeper Chris Jackson making a pair of saves in goal during that span as well. Senior Andrew Cox fired a shot on goal that was saved, with the half ending at a 0-0 tie.

Each team drew a corner kick in the first eight minutes of the second half as well as a pair of yellow cards later on as the teams pressed to break the tie. The Chargers struck in the 61st minute as sophomore Luke Richardson sent a free kick all the way up the field, with Marcroft gathering it on the base line and sending the ball into the box for freshman AJ Mecke, tapping the ball in for a huge score as Lancaster Bible broke through for a goal. LBC kept up the intensity after the score with sophomore Moses Katembo and Mecke adding shots on goal and the Chargers drawing two more corner kicks. Regent had several scoring opportunities throughout the half as freshman Micah Dressler made four total saves in the half, halting the Royals as LBC kept firing shots and drawing corners. Things got chippy in the final minutes as Dressler made a save and time wound down, with senior Lucas Durkin getting a red card from the officials as well as a Regent caution. Nevertheless, the Chargers left Virginia Beach with a win in their final non-conference match of the season.
