Bergey Breaks Scoring Record on Senior Night

The Lancaster Bible College Women's Soccer team celebrated Senior Night on Tuesday evening as they played host to Penn St. Brandywine in conference play, earning a 6-0 victory as senior Janae Bergey broke the single-season program scoring record with her 22nd goal of the year. The Chargers improve to 10-4 overall and 5-1 in the United East while the Lions fall to 6-6-1 overall and 2-5 in the United East.

Before the game, LBC Athletics took time to recognize the program's seniors for this season in their final regular season home game, including #00 Marcy Foltz (Sr.), #7 Janae Bergey (Sr.), #11 Kayleigh Rhine (Sr.), #16 Leah Perreault (Sr.), and #25 Jade Weir (Gr.).

How it Happened:
The Chargers came out firing with five shots on goal in the first ten minutes, striking at the eight-minute mark as senior Leah Perreault fired a shot that was deflected by the goalie to the feet of junior Leah Iman, punching it in on the left side to open the scoring for a 1-0 LBC lead. After another shot on goal by Iman, sophomore Zoe Beers fired a shot once again deflected by the Lions' goalie, then put away by Janae Bergey as she scored her first goal of the game and tied the program record with 21 goals. The Chargers drew a pair of corner kicks and had a slew of shots throughout the middle of the half, then in the 30th minute junior Zoi Whitsett took the ball across the baseline and sent the ball to the box, with junior Chloe Donaldson taking a shot to the left side for the score as the Chargers went up 3-0, taking that lead into the half.

The second half was all Lancaster Bible as they had three more shots on goal in the first eight minutes, with shots from Bergey, Iman, and graduate student Jade Weir. Moments later, Weir launched a lead pass all the way up the field to Bergey, who finished off a contested score and notched goal #22 for the season, officially setting a new program record for goals in a single season in the 56th minute for her second of the game and the Chargers' fourth. LBC drew three more corner kicks with several shots, then Bergey notched an assist as she placed a pass right at the feet of Beers, shooting for her sixth goal of the year and a five-point edge for the Chargers. Just two minutes later, Bergey capped off her record-setting night with a solo score across midfield and she beat the goalie one-on-one for another goal, her third of the night and 23rd of the season as the Chargers would go on to win the game 6-0 for their 10th victory of the season.
