Game Recap: Women's Basketball | | Mark Rowles

Women’s Basketball Falls Late at F&M

The Lancaster Bible College Women's Basketball team traveled across town to take on Franklin & Marshall in the Terry Greene Tip-Off Tournament on Friday night, falling 61-43 after a huge fourth quarter from F&M. The Chargers drop to 0-6 overall while the Diplomats improve to 4-1 overall.

How it Happened:
After the Diplomats opened the scoring, freshman Emily Wilson drove to the net for a layup to get the Chargers on the board. Junior Isabella Eufemia knocked down a mid-range jumper, then sophomore Shania Stoltzfus had a layup in transition to keep the score close early at 8-7. The Diplomats added a few more scores for a 12-7 lead, forcing an LBC timeout, then Stoltzfus ended the run with a driving score. After four more from the Diplomats, junior Rachel Nolt ended the half for LBC with a putback layup, trailing 16-11 after one quarter of play.

F&M scored the first five of the second quarter before Wilson got a layup to go, then later in the quarter Wilson hit a corner 3-pointer and then a sideline jumper to make it a five-point game. Neither team found much momentum in the quarter, with the Diplomats coming up empty several times and the Chargers having some turnover issues. Senior Raven Hunter drove for a layup within the final two minutes, then Wilson knocked down another three, bringing her to 12 first-half points. Stoltzfus added a jumper in the final seconds, sending the game to halftime with the Chargers down two at 27-25.

The Chargers tied the game at 27-27 to open the half on a bucket by Hunter, then Wilson pulled up for a made three to give the Chargers their first lead of the game at 30-29. She then put LBC back up by one on a pair of free throws, then the teams went over three and a half minutes with no score before Nolt hit a pullup outside the paint for a 34-31 LBC lead. Nolt then drained a three on the wing to give the Chargers a six-point edge to force a F&M timeout, then out of the break Nolt got another basket for a seven-point run all by herself and a nine-point LBC run to bring the quarter to a close with the Chargers up 39-31.

The Diplomats started the fourth quarter on a tear with the first three scores, narrowing the deficit to two, then Hunter ended the run with a layup. The Diplomats scored and drew a foul, missing the free throw but getting it back and tying the score at 41 with seven minutes to play. Franklin & Marshall then knocked down a three to take the lead back, then quickly went up seven at 48-41 with less than five minutes to go. They continued to pile on with a 21-2 run to open the quarter finally ending on a Nolt layup. A disastrous fourth quarter led to the Chargers scoring just four points, falling big to the Diplomats across town.
