The Lancaster Bible College Women's Basketball team traveled to six-seed Penn St. Harrisburg on Wednesday night for the first round of the 2025 United East Championship ultimately falling 60-51. The Chargers finish the 2024-25 season 10-15 overall and 7-9 in conference action. The Lions improve to 18-8 overall.
How It Happened: Neither team scored until over three minutes into the first quarter when
Rachel Nolt knocked in a jumper to give the Chargers a 2-0 lead. The Lions responded with a basket of their own but
Serene Calderon answered with another Chargers bucket to retake a 4-2 lead, the story for much of the game. The Chargers never gave up the lead in the first quarter despite tying five times in six minutes.
The Chargers poured in just eight second quarter points including six from
Isabella Eufemia as the Lions took the lead for the first time heading into halftime, 25-21.
Needing another key start, the Chargers had a big third quarter almost doubling their second quarter output with 16 third quarter points. Despite a 9-0 run from the Lions to start the half, the Chargers began to chip away little by little eventually ending the quarter on a three-pointer from
Jenna Dombach to bring their deficit to within one point, 38-37.
The Lions again got things going offensively to open the fourth quarter scoring ten straight points to take a commanding 48-37 lead. The Chargers were looking for one last run as they got within five points with :53 to play but it wasn't enough as the Lions went on to win 60-51.
By the Numbers: The Chargers shot 33-percent from the field, 35-percent from three, and 66-percent from the line… the Lions were 39-percent from the field, 16-percent from three, and 85-percent from the line… the Chargers were able to grab 10 steals and 19 points off turnovers… Calderon led the Chargers with 18 points and five assists… Nolt added 12 points and Eufemia had nine points… Jordan Carpenter had 18 points for the Lions.
Information to Know: The Lions won the season series 2-1 with their win tonight after splitting the season series 1-1 with the Chargers in the regular season. The Chargers ended the season on a four-game losing streak with two of those losses being by less than 10 points. This game marks the end of the collegiate careers of three LBC players:
Serene Calderon,
Jenna Dombach, and
Faith Hammond. Calderon played four seasons of college basketball with three seasons at Clarks Summit and one season with the Chargers, totaling 1,106 points, 426 assists, and 661 rebounds, all in the top-10 in Charger history. In her one season at Lancaster Bible, Serene led the Chargers in scoring at 12.3 points per game and 308 total points, also leading the team with 108 assists and landing second on the team with 187 rebounds. Dombach played five seasons with Lancaster Bible from 2020-25, finishing at 6th all-time in program history with 1,217 points and 9th all-time with 282 career assists. Jenna also pulled in 432 rebounds and sunk 175 career 3-pointers, the 4th-most in program history. Jenna finished the season with 306 total points at 12.2 points per game, adding 129 rebounds, 75 assists, and leading the team with 40 made 3-pointers at a rate of 34.2%. Hammond played in five seasons for the Chargers, four as a undergraduate student from 2020-24 and another for a few weeks to conclude this season. Faith totaled 224 points, 169 rebounds, and 27 assists, scoring 11 points this season for the Chargers.
This marks the conclusion of the 2024-25 season.
