Penn St. Harrisburg Tops Men’s Soccer in Lancaster

The Lancaster Bible College Men's Soccer team hosted Penn St. Harrisburg for a United East match on Saturday afternoon, suffering a 4-2 loss. The Chargers drop to 6-8-1 overall and 4-2 in the United East while the Lions improve to 6-7-2 overall and 5-1-1 in the United East.

How it Happened:
The Lions got on the board early as they put together a good pass at the goal for a score about three minutes in, taking the early road advantage. The Chargers, however, had an answer in the ninth minute on a free kick as Silas Dellaperute (Jr.) lined up for the kick, putting it in the box as Zach Coryell (Gr.) knocked it in for a score, leveling the game at 1-1 in the first 10 minutes. After defending a pair of corner kicks by the Lions, Dellaperute put a shot on goal that was saved, then the Lions flipped the field for two shots that missed wide. A few minutes later, the Lions had a shot that hit the crossbar for a narrow miss as Penn St. Harrisburg held LBC without a shot in the final 25 minutes of the half, with the score remaining tied at one heading into halftime.

On the first pass of the second half, the Chargers thundered down the field as Luke Richardson (Jr.) passed from the right to Riley Bills (Fr.), punching in the go-ahead score just 23-seconds into the half for a 2-1 LBC lead. The Lions then gained momentum with four shots in five minutes, including one off the right post before Gabe Bormolini (Fr.) had a shot close to the left side that missed. With under 30 minutes to play, Harrisburg had a strong shot that was saved by Micah Dressler (So.), then after the rebound went off the crossbar, the follow-up was good for a score to tie the game up at two goals apiece. About six minutes later, a strong attack on the goal led to the Lions' third goal of the game for the go-ahead score, taking a 3-2 advantage on the road. Jacob Melleby (Fr.) later had a shot blocked, then the Lions added another score with about 12 minutes to play to extend their lead to 4-2. Dressler made several more saves to keep the deficit at two, but the Chargers' late comeback effort fell short as they lost to the Lions at home in conference play.
