The Lancaster Bible College Women's Soccer team hosted Notre Dame (Md.) on Wednesday evening in their final home game of the regular season, pulling out a 4-2 victory after a late surge and securing their spot in the United East playoffs. The Chargers improve to 6-6-2 overall and 4-1-2 in the United East while the Gators drop to 4-9-1 overall and 2-4-1 in the United East.
How it Happened:
The Chargers had several early corner kicks before breaking through in the 11th minute as
Emily Murawski (So.) sent the corner in from the far side, finding
Haley Moyer (Sr.) on a header for the opening score and a Chargers lead. After a pair of corner kicks by the Gators without a shot attempt, the Chargers dominated possession as they had multiple drives and shot attempts, including one off the right post by Murawski. The Chargers had eight total corners in the first half, but the Gators held them off as the score remained 1-0 heading into halftime.
Lancaster Bible added to their lead in the first five minutes of the second half as
Rayanna Wagaman (Fr.) made a lead pass at midfield that found Murawski, winning a 1-on-1 and poking the ball past the keeper to net a score. Wagaman then had three shots in a three-minute span with one off the left post and another saved, then the Gators quickly flipped the field and netted a goal to cut the lead down to one. A few minutes later,
Isabella Eufemia (Sr.) had a shot saved on the left side, then Notre Dame (Md.) broke down the defense and got the tying score through at the 68-minute mark to make it a 2-2 game. The Chargers possessed the ball throughout the rest of the half as they pressed and pressed, seeing shots on goal from Eufemia, Wagaman, and
Madison Duggan (Fr.) in a short span before a high-arching shot by Murawski was narrowly saved by the defense. After 11 total corner kicks by the Chargers in the second half, they finally connected on the go-ahead score with just under five minutes to play as Wagaman used her shoulder to put the corner pass from Murawski through for a 3-2 LBC lead. The Chargers sealed the deal with 45 seconds to play as
Waryn Catania (Fr.) gathered a pass from Wagaman on the right side for a score, helping the Chargers win 4-2 at home and secure their spot in the postseason.
