Game Recap: Women's Soccer | | Mark Rowles

Women’s Soccer Falls at Harrisburg in Semifinals

The #5-seed Lancaster Bible College Women's Soccer team traveled to Middletown, Pa. on Wednesday night to take on #1-seed Penn St. Harrisburg in the United East Semifinals, falling by a score of 3-0. The Chargers end their season at 7-8-2 overall while the Lions improve to 10-5-2 overall and advance to the United East Championship game on Saturday to take on #3-seed St. Mary's (Md.) at home.

How it Happened:
The first ten minutes of the game went back and forth before a yellow card on the Lions led to a free kick and a shot by Rayanna Wagaman (Fr.), missing to the right. The Chargers drew a corner several minutes later, then Saige Santa Cruz (Jr.) made a save in goal to fend off an attack by the Lions. Santa Cruz made another save a minute later on a Lions header, then a press by Penn St. Harrisburg resulted in a shot on the left side that sailed into the goal to give them a 1-0 home lead in the 23rd minute. Each team had a corner kick later on back-to-back with no shots, then after a save by Santa Cruz late, the Chargers drew a corner in the final minute where Jade Weir (Gr.) got a head on the ball towards the goal, but the Lions' keeper made a save to help Harrisburg hold onto a 1-0 lead at the halftime break.

The Lions had a pair of early corner kicks in the second half with three total shots, ending up with another goal as the ball got loose in the box and punched in by Harrisburg's Olivia Sgrignioli for her second goal of the game to double the deficit for LBC. The Chargers drew two corner kicks in response but could not find a shot, then after a few minutes, Weir got another shot on goal that was saved. Later off a free kick, the Chargers had another shot as Waryn Catania (Fr.) sent a ball into the box that was gathered by the goalkeeper. Harrisburg iced the game in the 81st minute with a third score on a full-field play, then after a shot with four minutes to go by Allie Zuber (Jr.), that was it for the second half as the Lions advanced to Saturday's title game and sent the Chargers home with a Semifinal loss.

*Tonight marked the end of the college careers for 10 LBC student-athletes, including Haley Moyer, Isabella Eufemia, Allie Zuber, Chloe Donaldson, Leah Iman, Zoi Whitsett, Samantha Perloni, Amelia DePaul, Brooke Burkholder, and Jade Weir. Moyer, Whitsett, Perloni, and Burkholder each provided immense strength to the Chargers' defense throughout their careers as they anchored the back line, all four playing the full 90 minutes at least 10 times in their careers. Each has scored a goal in their careers as well with Moyer leading all defenders with four total goals, with Perloni leading the way with three total assists as Whitsett and Burkholder each had one as well. Allie Zuber finished her three-year tenure with LBC at four goals and four assists for 12 total points, tallying the game-winning assist earlier this season against Wilson. Donaldson has played on defense and in the midfield in her four seasons and has recorded two goals and one assist as a Charger on offense. DePaul played three full seasons for the Chargers and had four total goals and one assist, including her first career brace against Keystone this season with two scores. Iman has provided an offensive spark off the bench for the Chargers for four seasons, scoring eight total goals with one assist as well. Weir competed for six seasons with Lancaster Bible as she battled through injuries and consistently held it down in the midfield with eight total goals scored. Weir also ranks in a tie for 14th-Place in program history with 13 total assists, recording multiple assists in two games this season. Eufemia finishes her soccer career with the Chargers ranked in the top-12 for goals (24), assists (16), and points (64), leading all active players in each category and garnering three All-Conference selections as well as Rookie of the Year honors back in 2023.
