Chargers Fall to Kean in Four Sets

The Lancaster Bible College Men's Volleyball team hosted Kean in non-conference play on Tuesday night, losing by a set score of 3-1. The Chargers drop to 6-8 overall while the Cougars improve to 9-4 overall and 1-0 in the CVC.

How it Happened:
The Chargers opened up with a 3-0 lead with a service ace by Gabe Dressler (Fr.), then boosted the lead to 7-1 with kills from three different players. Timothy Fletcher (So.) then landed a block for a 9-2 lead, then maintained a steady lead before the Cougars put together a four-point run to pull within three. The Chargers responded with four of their own as Kevin Bryant (Jr.) had a kill and a block, then another kill two points later for a 20-13 lead. Lancaster Bible used another quick run of four to separate late before Kean fended off three set points, then Carson Hoover (Jr.) finished off the 25-17 set win with a kill.

The teams traded the first seven points of set two before a block by Hoover and Devin Galloway (Jr.) gave LBC a two-point lead at 5-3. The teams then went back and forth before a four-point burst from the Chargers, giving them a six-point lead at 14-8. Kean then came alive with eight of the next ten points to tie the set at 18-apiece, but kills from Bryant and Braden Escover (Fr.) kept the Chargers on top as they forced set point. The Cougars closed strong with three straight points to flip the score and take set two 26-24 to tie the match at 1-1.

The Chargers found themselves up early in set three at 6-3 after a kill and a service ace from Bryant, but the Cougars later flipped the lead as they went up 13-12 on LBC. This then led to a 5-1 scoring run for the Cougars as they took command of the set with a four-point lead, holding onto that lead as they closed out the set 25-19 and went up 2-1 on the Chargers.

Set four belonged to the Cougars from the start as they began with a 6-2 advantage, extending that lead later on to 13-6 with several kills and an ace. The Chargers later fought back with five of six points including two service aces from Zeke Clark (Jr.), cutting the deficit to three at 16-13. A late surge of kills from Escover and Hoover cut the lead to two, but the Cougars closed out set four 25-21 and completed the 3-1 victory over the Chargers.
