Men’s Soccer Overpowers PSU Berks

Cory Greiser's one goal and three assists were key in Chargers win at home

Box Score

Lancaster, PA- Going into Monday's match-up at home, the men's soccer team was looking to turn their two game losing skid around with a win. With outstanding play from their forwards, Cory Greiser (Quakertown, PA) and Kyle Zook (Lancaster, PA), the Chargers did just that, beating Penn State Berks 4-2.

It didn't take long for an eventful first half to get underway, when Greiser set up fellow forward Kyle Zook for the first goal of the game with only five minutes gone by. Mike Zopfi tied up the score quickly for the Lions at the 10:44 mark.

Freshman Cory Greiser had a hand in all four goals for the Chargers Monday, including a beautiful assist to Taylor Dooley (Tanytown, PA) to put the Chargers up for a second time. Finally, 39 minutes into the game Greiser netted a goal of his won to give the Chargers a two goal cushion.

The lead was cut 3-2 late in the first half, on a controversial penalty kick awarded to Penn State Berks, resulting in Zopfi's second goal of the game.

The score remained unchanged for most of the second half, but with the Chargers back on their heels. Lancaster's defense held off the opposing attack just long enough, for Zook and Greiser to connect once again. The goal was Zook's second of the game and gave the Chargers a much needed insurance goal.

A relieved Coach Josh Beers said at the game's conclusion, “We had excellent play from our forwards and we were able to win when we didn't play our best.”

The Chargers return to action in pursuit of win number eleven Wednesday, at Penn State Harrisburg at 4:00 pm.
