Lancaster, PA- The women's volleyball team's seventh win in a row looked probable when they took the first two sets from Hood College Tuesday night. The Blazers had different plans taking the third and fourth sets 25-15, 25-20, and forcing a deciding fifth set. In the final set the Chargers relinquished a three point lead while holding game point only to lose 16-14.
In the loss, the Chargers played excellent defense, against a very scrappy Hood team. At the net, middle hitters Lauren Miller (Elizabethtown, PA) and Katie McAllister (Etters, PA) each had terrific nights logging three solo blocks a piece. On offense, the middle hitting tandem teamed up for 26 kills and only 4 errors.
Five players had more than ten digs for Lancaster, including libero Lauren Hurd (Ellendale, DE) with 23 and Jill Ferguson (Lititz, PA) with 18 both season highs. Hannah Noble (Littlestown, PA), Ellissa Hunsberger (Norristown, PA), and Brittney Becker (Sykesville, MD) had 17, 15, and 12 digs respectively.
Two key stats were devastating to the Charger cause, service errors and serve receive errors. Lancaster had 13 serve receive errors on the night and 16 serving errors on the night. Coach Mable expressed her frustration, “We cannot win if we don't make serves, poor serving cost us critical points tonight.”
The Chargers look to bounce back on Thursday against Lincoln University at 7:00 pm.
