Lancaster, PA- On Tuesday night the men's basketball team lost to the Falcons of Messiah College 73-55. Lancaster was unable to match the Falcons intensity in the first half and fell behind early and would never recover.
In the first half, Lancaster was unable to get anything going offensively against Messiah's tough defense. The Chargers went almost 10 minutes without their first field goal and didn't score their second until the 7:20 mark. Billy Harrison (Douglassville, PA) dropped 10 points in the first half and seemed to be the only Charger that was able to find the bottom of the net.
It seemed like it was just one of those night that nothing worked for the Chargers. Lancaster came into the game shooting close to 49 percent from the field, which was not the case Tuesday night. The Chargers shot 33.3 percent from the floor for the game and a horrific 22.7 percent in the first half. On the other end, Lancaster allowed Messiah to shoot almost 53 percent in the first half and 43 percent for the game.
In the second half, the Chargers were able to cut to deficit to 20 with 6:10 remaining in the game but it proved to be too little too late, never getting closer than 18. The Falcons had three players in double figures: Josh Hartman (14), Kyle Snyder (11), and Jason Miller (11). The lone bright spot for the Chargers was senior captain, Billy Harrison, who finished with a game high 17 points.
“They played harder and more together and whipped us soundly”, Coach Beers said after the game. “We hopefully will rebound to come back better after the break.”
The Chargers return to action next weekend, December 5th, when they travel to North Carolina Wesleyan for the NCWC Roger Taylor Invitational.
