York, PA- The women's basketball team got their first win of the 2008-2009 season Tuesday night beating Penn State York 64-49. The Chargers forced 15 turnovers, pulled down 17 offensive boards, and shot 84.6 % from the free throw line on the way to victory.
At the 12:22 mark of the first half, the score was knotted at 14 a piece. Over the next 7 and ½ minutes the Chargers hit 7 three's outscoring the Lions 29-8 to end the half up 43-22. The second half proved to be more of the same as the Lions never were able to cut the deficit below 13 points.
For the Lions, Lindsay Mumma had 23 points and 9 rebounds both game highs. Leading the way for the Chargers was sophomore Lacy McClaine (New Bethlehem, PA) with 17 points and 4 assists, and Nicole Karschner added 15 points and 3 rebounds.
The women's home opener on Wednesday, December 3rd is next up against Penn State York at 7:00pm.
