Chargers Drop Two at Roger Taylor Invitational

Rocky Mount, NC- The Chargers (1-4) came up short in both games in their first ever appearance in the Roger Taylor Invitational at North Carolina Wesleyan College.

In the first round on Friday, Lancaster lost to host North Carolina Wesleyan College, 81-58. The Chargers, though clear underdogs, held their own against the 24th nationally ranked Battling Bishops. In the loss, the Chargers out rebounded the taller more athletic Bishops 49-34. Once again, turnovers proved to be costly, giving up the ball a horrendous 35 times, which led to 33 points for NCWC.

Domarius Thomas, the only Bishop in double figures, came off the bench to lead NCWC with 16 points. Kevin Keltner (Menomonee Falls, WI) had game highs in points and rebounds with 18 and 9. Captains, Billy Harrison (Douglassville, PA) and Carl Edwards (Baltimore, PA), chipped in 10 and 13 respectively.

In the consolation game on Saturday, the Chargers lost to the Cardinals York College of New York, 67-53. York jumped on Lancaster early going up 12, 17-5, at the 13:28 of the first half. The half finished with the Chargers trailing 33-22. The effort was there, but the shots would not go down. The Chargers were finally able to cut into the Cardinal lead with eight minutes left when freshman Derek Scott (Harrington, DE) hit a three to bring the deficit to 4. Lancaster was unable to get any closer due to York's 21-11 run to end the game, 67-53.

Carl Edwards was a force inside for the Chargers with a game high 22 points on an impressive 9-11 shooting from the field. Senior guard, Billy Harrison added 14 points in the loss.

The Chargers return home on Thursday, and try to break their 4 game losing streak against Washington Bible College at 7:00 pm.
