Chargers Goal Keeping Gets Second Straight Shutout

Box Score

Weston, MA - Lancaster Bible College men's soccer team started its season with consecutive victories for the first time this decade. The Chargers won their second straight on the road against Regis College 2-0. Though the score was close, the Chargers cruised to their second win with an offensive effort that kept the opponents back on their heels all game.

Lancaster Bible College did not hesitate as they started out with overwhelming pressure that would put the Pride in a difficult position to make any sustained move up the field. Dan Carver (Hagerstown, MD) gave the Chargers a 1-0 lead midway through the first half, which would prove to be all the scoring that was needed.

Officially, the Chargers tallied their first goal in the 39th minute when Dan Carver scored off a header from a well placed corner kick from Kevin Keltner (Menominee Falls, WI). Freshman, Travis Weyandt (Claysburg, PA) closed out the scoring in the 80th minute by converting a cross from fellow rookie, Taylor Dooley (Taneytown, MD) to beat the keeper for his first career goal.

Kyle Zook (Lancaster, PA) played an outstanding game, creating multiple scoring chances as the Chargers out shot Regis 29-5. Jake Kreider (Annville, PA) recorded his second shutout as the Charger defense opened the season with 180 minutes of soccer without allowing a goal.

Head Coach Josh Beers summed up the two games this way, "I am really pleased with the way the freshmen played this weekend. We have some team speed and depth that we have not had the past few years. We played well as a unit defensively as well and after giving up more than 3 goals per game last year, it was imperative to improve defensively, and that showed this weekend. We took some steps the last two days, and we look forward to the challenges we face this week."

Chargers travel to Delaware Valley College for their next match at 4:00 pm on Wednesday, September 3rd.
