Portland, OR- For the first time since 2003, the men's basketball team (3-7) traveled to Multnomah University to face the Lions along with the Southwestern College Eagles. On Thursday, the Chargers beat the host Lions 89-71. In the second game, on Saturday, Lancaster dropped its 7th game of the year to Southwestern College.
In Thursday's match up, the Chargers held the high scoring Multnomah three point attack to 14 points below their average and only 29% from behind the arc. On the other end, Lancaster hit on 54.5% of their shots on their way to their second highest scoring output of the season.
Billy Harrison (Douglassville, PA) led all scorers with a season high 26 points on 9 of 18 shooting while grabbing 9 rebounds. In his first action of the year, sophomore Eric Nulf (Fayetteville, NC) chipped in with 10 points, 8 boards, and 2 blocked shots. Andrew Risser (Lancaster, PA) gave the Chargers a boost of the bench with 14 points and 6 rebounds.
Lancaster big men, Colin Cooper (Eliot, ME) and Carl Edwards (Baltimore, MD) dominated inside combining for 21 points on an impressive 9 -15 shooting. Finally, freshman guard Derek Scott (Harrington, DE) had his best overall performance filling his stat line with 7 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists, and 3 steals. In the loss, Multnomah had four players in double figures including: Nick Kamlade (17), Tyler Yates (17), Ryan Huisman (11), and William Yates (10).
On Saturday, Lancaster dug an early hole to start the game down 17-6. Tough defense to end the half allowed the Chargers to take a 2 point lead at the half, 35-33. In the second half, the Eagles caught fire connecting on 10 of 14 shots from deep. Southwestern guard Derek Gossard, who finished with 22 points, broke the game open with three straight three pointers midway through the second half. Daniel Stanton had a game high 31 points, 21 of them coming from behind the arc.
Once again, Billy Harrison was the Charger's leading scorer with 19. Reserve, Andrew Risser recorded his second game in double figures finishing with 17. Junior forward, Carl Edwards finished with 11 to round out the Chargers in double figures.
The Chargers return to action against East Region rival Baptist Bible College on Tuesday at 7:00 pm.
