Lancaster, PA- The men's volleyball team opened the 2009 season, at home Thursday night, with a loss to Philadelphia Biblical University 18-30, 23-30, 21-30. The loss gives the Chargers their first in NECVA divisional play.
In the first set, the Chargers had no answer for the more experienced Crimson Eagles and the 2008 NECVA Western Division Player of the Year Justin Brubaker. After starting the set tied at 5 points a piece, the visitors outscored Lancaster 17-7 on their way to taking the set 30-18.
Lancaster started the second set in similar fashion down 11-20. A couple of service errors shifted the momentum in the Chargers favor and Lancaster went on a 12-6 run to cut the deficit to three, 23-26. Unfortunately, that would be the closest the home team would get as the Crimson Eagles responded with a four point run to finish the game 30-23.
Philadelphia Biblical stayed in control throughout the third set winning 30-21. Jade Brubaker lead the Eagles with a game high 15 kills, 7 digs and a 37.8 kill percentage. Senior setter Ben Bewley (Lancaster, PA) led the Chargers with team high eight kills and nine digs along with nine assists.
The Chargers return to action on Friday at Stevenson at 4:00 PM.
