Gophers Score Two Late Goals, Down Chargers 3-1

Lancaster Bible College men's soccer coach Josh Beers is always talking about the program "raising the bar" and "taking the next step." Wednesday night at Goucher showed the Chargers they are close, but still have work to do.

The Chargers (9-5) allowed three second half goals and fell to the Gophers 3-1 in Baltimore, Md. Wednesday night. Junior Kevin Keltner scored the lone goal for the Chargers on a great pass from junior Kyle Zook on a free kick, just three minutes into the second half.

The Gophers (6-5-1) responded quickly, scoring six minutes later, on a goal by Dan Brody. The game remained tied for 24 minutes before Goucher's Adam Boyce scored the game-winning goal with 11 minutes to go. Elijah Lias scored four minutes later to put the game away for the Gophers.

"We competed hard tonight," Beers said. "We are able to compete with these types of teams for 60 or 70 minutes, but they find another gear and we can't match it. We have to be able to compete for 90 minutes and find another gear like these other teams do."

The Chargers were out shot 27-5 on a cold and windy night in Maryland. Sophomore goalkeeper Jake Kreider made 13 saves to keep LBC in the match.

"We don't have time to feel sorry for ourselves," Beers said. "We play a tough Lycoming team on Thursday and we have to be ready to play."

Thursday's game against Lycoming is the last regular season home game for the Chargers. The team will honor its only senior, Eric Gregory, before the match. Game time is 4:00 p.m.
