Medaille, NY- The Chargers put together a team effort to come away with a pair of wins this weekend. On Friday, Lancaster avenged an earlier loss to D'Youville College with a thrilling five set victory over the Trojans (31-29, 30-25, 25-30, 24-30, 15-11). The Chargers split on Saturday, losing to Medaille College 1-3 (33-35, 28-30, 32-30, 19-30) in the day's first match. Bouncing back, Lancaster got the better of SUNY IT 3-1 (30-19, 30-28, 21-30, 30-22).
At D'Youville, setter, Ben Bewley (Lancaster, PA) ran the show for the Chargers distributing his season high 57 assists to four different hitters with double digit kills. Freshman, Stephen Osborne (Coatesville, PA) led the Chargers with 16 kills apiece hitting at an impressive .517 clip. Classmate, Jesse Corbin (Pittsburgh, PA) also finished with 16 kills. Jake Harbold (Chaing Mai, Thailand) chipped in with 13 kills and a game high 23 digs.
The Chargers had 49 kills and only 11 errors but were unable to overcome Medaille. In their first meeting the Mavericks took care of the Chargers easily in three sets. This wasn't the case Saturday, with Lancaster taking three of the four sets to game point. Harbold led the team with a double-double, 11 kills along with 16 digs. Bewley had another superb game with 41 assists. Also, Brandon Boosz (Canton, OH) contributed with 24 digs.
Everybody got a chance to contribute for the Chargers in the 3-1 win against SUNT IT. Once again, Jake Harbold led the Chargers with a lights out hitting performance at .441 with 20 kills and only 5 errors. Outside hitters, Jason Glerum (York, PA) and Jesse Corbin got in on the action with 13 and 11 kills respectively.
Next the Chargers travel to Harrisonburg, VA for a rematch with Eastern Mennonite University on Wednesday the match is scheduled for 6:00 PM.
