Chargers Spilt on Road Trip

Annandale on the Hudson, NY- The Chargers (3-9) returned from the weekend with two wins and two losses. On Saturday, Lancaster opened the trip with a 3-0 win over Polytechnic Institute and then followed it with a loss to Bard College 1-3. In Sunday's action, the Chargers lost first match in three sets to host Lassel University and beat Lesley College 3-0.

 

Against Polytechnic, the Chargers started out hot taking the first set 30-9, and were able to hold off the Fighting Blue Jays 30-28 and 30-16 in the second and third sets. In the win, the Chargers set a season high connecting on 38.5% of their swings. Sophomore Jake Harbold (Chaing Mai, Thailand) led Lancaster with 12 kills and only two errors. Senior setter Ben Bewley (Lancaster, PA) added a team high 26 assists.

 

In the second match, the Chargers took Bard College to extra play losing the first set 29-31. Lancaster had trouble recovering from the tough first set, and dropped two of the next three sets to the Raptors. Once again, outside hitter Jake Harbold led the team in kills with 15. Andy Read (York, PA) had 19 assists to go along with Bewley's 26.

 

For the second straight day the Chargers took their opponent beyond game point and were unable to come away with the score in their favor. Lancaster fell to Lassel University 31-33, 20-30, and 22-30 in their first match on Sunday. Rookie, Stephen Osborne (Coatesville, PA) led the team with 11 kills in the loss.

 

Finally, it was a team effort in the win against Lesley University with no Charger finishing with more than six kills. Jason Glerum (York, PA) and Brandon Boosz (Canton, OH) headed up the defense with eight digs a piece.

 

The Chargers return home on Tuesday to host Eastern Mennonite University at 7:00 PM.
