Chargers Fall in Regional Final

Phoenixville, PA- Despite out-rebounding their opponents and executing their game plan the Chargers fell 73-61 to Valley Forge Christian College in the regional final, Saturday afternoon. The Chargers refused to give up, whittling down an18 point second half lead to eight with seven minutes to go, but the Patriots proved to be too much down the stretch.

 

The game started with Chargers dictating tempo. Ten minutes played and the score 8-5, in the home team's favor. The Patriots found their offensive groove spouting off a 21-6 to take an 18 point lead. Led by 12 first half points from Billy Harrison (Douglassville, PA) the Chargers stormed back in the final two minutes of the half to cut the lead to 10, but Nate Stoner's last second three put Lancaster down 32-19 at the break.

 

The Patriots lengthened their lead back to 18 in the second half. Once again, the Chargers fought their back into the game, pulling within eight at 48-40, with 7:15 on the clock. Stoner put the Patriots back in control with a timely steal and dunk to put the home team back up 10. The Charger's efforts down the stretch came up short as the Patriots hit their last seven free throws to ice game 73-61.

 

In his last game in a Charger uniform, Harrison had a valiant effort finishing with 25 points, five rebounds four assists and a steal. Sophomore, Eric Nulf (Fayetteville, NC) was instrumental in the second half push with all 13 points in second half and 14 rebounds. Carl Edwards (Baltimore, MD) chipped in with 12 points and eight rebounds. The East Region Player of the Year, Nate Stoner led the Patriots with 22 points.

 

This was Lancaster's second trip to the East Region Championship in three years and is now 1-2 all time in regional finals. The Chargers finish the season 9-18 overall and 5-4 in the East Region.
