Women's Volleyball Drops First Match

LBC Volleyball

The Lancaster Bible College Women's Volleyball team opened its 2009 season with a loss on Tuesday night at Gettysburg 3-0. The Bullets defeated the Chargers by scores of 30-11, 30-10, 30-9.

While not reflected in the score, Head Coach Lauren Mable believes this match will end up helping the Chargers.

"It was a very good learning experience for the team," Mable said. "It's good to get that first match under your belt and win or lose, we did that tonight."

LBC was led by freshman Janae Almas who had four kills, four digs and an ace. Ellisa Hunsberger and Lauren Heliger also added two kills apiece. Hunsberger led the way with four assists.

Mable was impressed with the way Gettysburg (1-0) handled themselves on-and-off the court.

"It's nice to learn from a good team and that's what they are, before, during and after the match, they are good team," Mable said.

The Chagers (0-1), who are very young as a team, are still learning to mesh with each other.

"We still have to adjust to one another on the court," Mable said.

LBC will host Penn State-Brandywine on Thursday at Horst Athletic Center at 7:00 p.m.
