Waynesburg Outplays LBC

It's hard to convey that something needs to be fixed to a team if the team keeps winning. Lancaster Bible College men's soccer Head Coach Josh Beers has had that problem for two weeks, but with his Chargers winners of five straight, it was tough to implement new ideas. After their surprising home loss to Waynesburg University on Friday, those changes won't be so hard to talk about.

The Yellow Jackets outplayed the Chargers (5-2) for most of the 90 minutes on LBC's campus Friday afternoon and won 2-1 on a second half goal by Erick Burke.

"They were much more physical than us the whole game and that bothers me," Beers said. "We have to fix things on the defensive end as well."

The Chargers opened the scoring 18 minutes into the game on a penalty kick by junior Kyle Zook. Waynesburg (1-7), tied the game less than two minutes later on a put-back goal by Jeremy Pronto.

For the match, LBC out shot the Yellow Jackets 16-12, and held the advantages in corners 7-2.

Waynesburg controlled much of the play in the second half, converting that into Burke's goal at the 63 minute mark.

"Waynesburg was hungry for their first win of the season and they came in here and got it," Beers said.

The inconsistant play during the whole match is one thing Beers hopes to fix.

"We made too many mistakes on the defensive end and we have to fix that quickly," Beers said.

Trying to take positives away from the day, Beers reiterated that the loss may end up helping the Chargers in the long run.

"This is a good loss," Beers said. "We need to pay more attention to detail and focus for a full 90 minutes."

LBC will have to rebound quickly, they host Hood College on Saturday afternoon at 3:00 p.m.

"We will find out about ourselves very quickly tomorrow," Beers said. "We are excited about that."

Before the men take on the Blazers at 3:00 p.m., the Charger women will host Baptist Bible College at 1:00 p.m.
