Compton, Reich Power Patriots Past Chargers

Playing their first home game since December 5th, the Lancaster Bible College women's basketball team had the difficult challenge of facing the seventh ranked team in NCCAA Division II. In the first half, the Chargers were up to the challenge, trailing by just one heading into the break.

Unfortunately for LBC, Valley Forge Christian's Amanda Reich and Amanda Compton took over in the second half and the Chargers went ice cold from the field.

Compton and Reich combined for 36 of the Patriots' 59 points as Valley Forge Christian defeated LBC 59-40 on Tuesday night at Horst Athletic Center.

"We tried to keep someone on Reich and for the most part I think we did a good job containing her," Charger Head Coach Bob Shannon said. "Compton however created a mismatch for us and used her size to her advantage."

Both Reich and Compton shot 7-for-17 from the field. Compton pulled down eight boards, while Reich grabbed six.

Coming out of halftime trailing 23-22, the Chargers felt confident they could hang with the Patriots in the second half. After freshman Lauren Heliger cut the VFCC lead to four with 13:51 to play, the Chargers went cold and didn't score again until Heliger made a jumper with 8:49 to play. In that span, the VFCC lead stretched from four to 17.

"We went cold and simply did not take care of the ball," Shannon said. "They are solid and we need to be more consistent."

Heliger led LBC with 15 points and seven rebounds.

"Lauren played really well for us again tonight," Shannon said.

Nicole Karschner had five points and nine rebounds for LBC (2-13). Lacy McClaine added seven points and four assists.

The Chargers are back in action on Thursday when they host Penn State-York at 7:00 p.m. The Lady Lions defeated LBC on November 17 by a score of 43-34.
