Scoring droughts and stopping the opposing teams' scoring runs have caused problems for the Lancaster Bible College women's basketball team this season. The problem reared its ugly head again on Saturday. St. Joseph's (Brooklyn) opened Saturday's game on a 27-3 run in the first 9 minutes of the game and cruised to a 69-52 win at Horst Athletic Center.
"We knew going in that if they had open looks they were going to knock them down," Chargers Head Coach Bob Shannon said. "Unfortunately, they had too many open looks in the first half."
The Bears' Ashley McQuillan had 28 points on 12-of-16 shooting to lead St. Joseph's.
"We had poor communication on defense and did not stop their attack very well," Shannon said.
Chargers' freshman
Lauren Heliger once again led LBC, scoring 18 points and grabbing four rebounds.
Lacy McClaine chipped in with 10 points for the Chargers.
"Lauren played well again for us," Shannon said. "Lacy was solid today. She played good defense and moved the ball well on the offensive side of things."
Shannon was also pleased with the spark
Deb Martin provided off the bench. She had four points and five rebounds.
LBC out-scored the Bears in the second half 34-30.
"We simply did not move the ball very well in the first half and when we did that in the second half, we scored points," Shannon said.
The Chargers (2-15) continue their stretch of home games on Wednesday when they host Penn State-Harrisburg at 6:00 p.m.
