Bench Lifts Chargers to East Region Final

LBC Advances to East Region Final

If Lancaster Bible College Men's Soccer Head Coach Josh Beers had known that Miles Oxenford and Taylor Dooley were going to provide a spark off the bench that saw them score eight minutes apart at the end of the first half, he would have put them in a lot sooner.

Oxenford broke a scoreless tie 30 seconds after he was inserted into the game to help jumpstart the sleeping Chargers' offense. Dooley added to the lead eight minutes later off a feed from Lawrence Lartey. Dooley's goal wound up being the game-winner and helped send LBC to the NCCAA Division II East Region Final for the fourth straight season.

"We got a great spark off the bench from Dooley and Oxenford," Beers said. "Overall I was pleased with how we moved the ball today and how we controlled the midfield."

After BBC's Caleb Evans cut the lead in half 12 minutes into the second half, the Chargers turned up the heat again and Cory Greiser stretched the lead back to two in the 66th minute with his 11th goal of the year. Dooley added his second goal of the game with just under six minutes to go to put the game away.

"We are playing our best soccer of the season and are looking forward to the challenge on Saturday," Beers said.

That challenge will be Philadelphia Biblical University. The Crimson Eagles beat Valley Forge Christian on Tuesday, 5-1 and will meet the Chargers for the fourth straight year.

"We know PBU is a very good team and will play us even tougher then last time when they beat us," Beers said.

Last time would be October 9, when the Crimson Eagles beat LBC, 1-0. That win gave PBU home-field advantage throughout the playoffs and will force the Chargers to win on the road if they are to return to Florida for the NCCAA National Tournament.

Notes:
-LBC out shot BBC, 23-13 and held a 4-2 advantage in corner kicks.

-This is the first time since 1986 the Chargers have beaten BBC twice in the same season.

-Thursday was the fifth time this season LBC has scored four or more goals. They did it six times last season.

-LBC beat PBU in Langhorne last season in the NCCAA East Region Final, 1-0.
