Chargers Fall to Cincinnati Christian, 71-47

The Lancaster Bible College women's basketball team continued their five-game road trip with a Friday matinee against Cincinnati Christian University and came up short, losing 71-47. The game, played at Valley Forge Christian College, was part of the Hersha Hospitality Big East Classic.

Brittney Becker led the Chargers with 10 points, while Lauren Heliger had eight points. LBC (1-2) had a difficult time stopping the Cincinnati Christian front line that boasts three players over six feet tall.

"They had some big, tall girls," LBC Head Coach Doug Helsel said. "They got a lot of second chance points in the first half and built their lead that way."

The NCCAA Division I Eagles (7-1) led 41-21 at the half, but LBC hung tough and was only outscored by four in the second half.

"It was the best the game we have played so far this season," Helsel said. "We played a 2-3 zone for a little while and it worked pretty well. We just started practicing that a few days ago and I thought it looked pretty good."

Helsel said some of the girls who joined the team late because of playing a fall sport are still getting into the swing of things.

"Emily Lloyd has basically practiced once this season and once she gets into a bit of a rhythm, we will be a better team down low," Helsel said. "I think the team unity is great and we are learning to play together."

LBC will get another chance to keep getting better on Saturday when they play their second game of the tournament against Kentucky Christian University. The Knights are the defending NCCAA Division II National Champions, but lost to Cincinnati Christian by 14 points on Thursday night.

"We feel we can give KCU a game and who knows, if we play well, maybe steal one from them," Helsel said.

Tip-off is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
