The Lancaster Bible College men's basketball team lost to St. Vincent, 66-59, in the Championship of the Hampton Inn Coaches vs. Cancer Classic held at Mount Aloysius College.
LBC's
Kody Koser had a game-high 27 points. Koser, who scored 29 points in the Chargers' win Friday night, was a perfect 15-of-15 from the free throw line on Saturday afternoon. Chargers' senior
Kevin Keltner was the only other LBC player in double-digits with 10 points.
"I thought we played well as a team," LBC Head Coach
Pete Beers said. "We weren't as crisp offensively as we needed to be, but we are learning to compete and growing as a unit."
St. Vincent was led by BJ McGill's 16 points and 12 assists. McGill was 7-of-8 from the free throw line and was the difference at the end of the game as the Bearcats would not let the Chargers close the gap by fouling at the end.
LBC cut the Bearcats' lead to three points with 1:21 to go, but St. Vincent made all of their free throws to put the Chargers away.
"St. Vincent's coach and I agreed that this was a pretty good game considering it's the middle of November," Beers said. "Every possession meant something and it was intense the entire time."
The Chargers will host Eastern Mennonite on Tuesday night at Horst Athletic Center. The Runnin' Royals are ranked third in NCAA Division III and defeated LBC, 96-53 last season. Beers said the team is looking forward to the game and wants to continue to get better.
"The potential is there for this team and I think the guys are starting to feel it," Beers said. "We [the coaches] are still getting used to the players, and they are still getting used to us, but the quality of play is picking up and that is a good thing."
Notes:
-Both Koser and Keltner were named to the All-Tournament Team.
-Koser had 57 points in the two games and leads the team in scoring, averaging 24 points in the first three games.
