Leading by 10 in the first half, trailing by nine in the second half, trailing through the whole first overtime and winning by 12 - Lancaster Bible College's men's basketball game against Philadelphia Biblical University had just about everything on Saturday.
The Chargers outscored the Crimson Eagles, 14-2 in the second overtime and pulled out a 108-96 victory in Langhorne, Pa.
Andrew Risser had 20 points to lead six LBC players in double figures.
Brett Derr had 19 points, while
Erich Graybill continued his strong play inside with 18 points and 13 rebounds.
"I am pleased with the win, our guys willed themselves throughout the game and earned the win," Chargers' Head Coach
Pete Beers said.
Box Score
LBC led for much of the first half before PBU took a two-point lead into halftime. The Crimson Eagles continued their tough play in the second half, leading the game until Risser hit a jumper with 1:34 remaining to tie the score at 78-78. After trading buckets, the team entered overtime tied at 82-82.
In overtime, the Chargers trailed again for most of the extra period before Derr hit a three-pointer to tie the game at 92-92. After Brett Zamroz hit a jumper for PBU, two
Kevin Keltner free throws tied the game at 94-94 and send the game to double overtime.
"Kevin's two free throws were crucial," Beers said. "Big E [Graybill] and Derr were huge for us as well and Risser really stepped up too."
Derr's jumper seven seconds into the second overtime gave the Chargers their first lead since the 1:34 mark of the first half and LBC was off and running. They scored the next eight points and a Zamroz's jumper was the only bucket PBU could manage in the second overtime.
"We are fortunate to win by 12 in a game like this," Beers said. "Our guys played hard and it is nice to get a win like this heading into finals week."
The Chargers have two games before Christmas Break, the first of which will be against Ferrum College next Saturday in Ferrum, Virginia. Tip-off is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
