Turnovers Plague Chargers in Loss to Mounties

The Lancaster Bible College women's basketball team has had its problem with turning the ball over this season. After winning two of their last three, the problem seemed to have gone away for a little while. It was back in full force on Monday night at Horst Athletic Center.

Mount Aloysius forced 25 first half turnovers and outscored the Chargers 46-16 in the first half, en route to a 77-48 victory on Breast Cancer Awareness Night at LBC.

Meredith Wrightson and Nicole Karschner each had six points and seven rebounds for LBC (4-17). Christine Maher added four points and four rebounds for the Chargers.

"Obviously turnovers killed us tonight," Charger Head Coach Bob Shannon said. "We struggled fundamentally on both ends of the floor."

The Mounties' Lindsey Bush led all scorers with 15 points to go with her five boards. Emily McKenna added 12 points, seven rebounds and six assists in the win.

While the Mounties controlled the first half, the Chargers did not quit in the second half, out scoring Mount Aloysius, 32-31.

"Give the ladies credit," Shannon said. "They came out and fought hard in the second half. That being said, you have to play 40 minutes to be competitive."

Freshman Amanda Bracelin played a tough game for the Chargers. Bracelin's defense and ability to get to the rim helped LBC in the second half.

"Amanda has been working hard and she played solid for a freshman tonight," Shannon said.

Adding to the loss was Lacy McClaine going down midway through the second half with an apparent knee injury. There is no word yet on the extent of the injury.

"Anytime a veteran like Lacy goes down, it impacts the team," Shannon said. The Chargers are already without Cindy Blough and Olivia Shaffer due to their earlier injuries.

Despite the loss, the Chargers can rebound in a big way on Wednesday night against NCCAA East Region rival Valley Forge Christian.

"It is a big regional game for us," Shannon said. "We have to work hard at practice on Tuesday."

Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday at Valley Forge Christian.

Notes:
-For the game, LBC turned the ball over 36 times, a season-high.

-LBC held a 38-35 edge on the boards.
