Coming off Wednesday night's double overtime loss at Valley Forge Christian, the Lancaster Bible College women's basketball team was looking to sustain the momentum they took from Wednesday's game. They sustained it and then some.
The Chargers jumped all over Valley Forge Military College on Friday night, defeating the Trojans, 73-35 at Horst Athletic Center.
Freshman
Lauren Heliger led all scorers with 13 points, five rebounds and five assists.
Emily Lloyd had 12 points and four boards, while senior
Meredith Wrightson chipped in with 10 points and six rebounds.
"We wanted to come out and prove that Wednesday was not a fluke," Chargers' Assistant Coach Adam Surguine said. "We are trying to peak at the right time."
Nicole Karschner also had 11 points for LBC (5-18), while freshman
Amanda Bracelin played well again, with eight points and three rebounds.
"Amanda gave a spark to the team when we needed it tonight," Surguine said. "We were in a bit of a lull and she came in and provided good energy."
LBC got great contribution from its bench as well. Seven players coming off the bench provided 35 of the 73 points.
"Our strong bench play proves we can go deeper than some of the teams we are going to play," Chargers' Assistant Coach Jocelyn Abel said.
With another showdown against Valley Forge Christian looming next Thursday in the NCCAA East Region Semi-Final, the Chargers will use their remaining game and practices to work on fine tuning their game.
"We have to work on the little things," Surguine said. "Whether that is boxing out or our defensive fundamentals and rotations, we have to get better."
LBC will host Trinity (D.C.) on Tuesday night at 7:00 p.m. Prior to the game, the Chargers will honor their two seniors,
Meredith Wrightson and
Kelly Long.
