After being overwhelmed last Thursday in their 64-45 loss at Valley Forge Christian, the Lancaster Bible College men's basketball team traveled to Elizabethtown College hoping to not only play better basketball, but to show they could hang with a good team as well.
Despite losing to E-town, 86-68, the Chargers accomplished both goals Monday night. LBC was down just seven at halftime and battled the entire second half, but could not overcome the Blue Jays' hot shooting.
E-town's Joe Flanagan had 24 points on 8-of-10 shooting to lead the Blue Jays, while Keith Fogel had 15 points and six assists.
Chargers' sophomore
Kody Koser had 18 points to lead LBC (6-11).
Kevin Keltner added 16 points and eight assists despite being in foul trouble most of the night.
"I thought we played pretty well tonight," Chargers' Head Coach
Pete Beers said. "I am encouraged because there was a renewed effort to our type of basketball. We still need to learn how to overcome adversity on the road."
The Chargers shot 45 percent from the field, but just 5-of-19 from beyond the arc.
"We need to get on the same page offensively," Beers said. "We need to find ways to get our scorers the ball, but at the same time, still run our offense effectively."
The Chargers cut the Blue Jays' lead to nine with 12:35 to play on a Koser 3-pointer, but E-town responded 9-0 run over the next three minutes to put the game away.
"There were some big possessions in the second half where we just didn't play well enough," Beers said. "I thought we played well for 35 minutes tonight and against a good team, that isn't good enough."
The Chargers will play at home for just the second time in 2011 on Wednesday when they host Penn State Altoona at 6:00 p.m.
