The Lancaster Bible College women's basketball team opened their 2011-2012 campaign with a 62-42 loss to Penn St. Harrisburg on Tuesday night.
Lauren Heliger and
Brooklyn Wilson each had 12 points, while freshman
Sarah Heilenman had seven points and 10 rebounds.
The stat that killed the Chargers' chances early was 20-3. That was the offensive rebounding advantage the Nittany Lions held over LBC in the first half which earned them 19 more shots.
"The offensive rebounds killed us in the first half," Chargers' Head Coach Doug Helsel said. "We made some adjustments for the second half, but the deficit was too much. We just gave them too many chances."
Despite the loss, the Chargers' freshman, Heilenman and
Carmin Nachtigal, played well, as did Wilson.
"Sarah and Carmin played some good minutes, so hopefully we can build off of that," Helsel said. "Brooklyn took control of the offense, which is what we need her to do."
For the game, LBC shot 30.4% (14-of-46) from the field, but was just 13-of-24 from the free throw line, something they'll have to improve on if they are to beat their next opponent, Elizabethtown.
The Chargers will host the Blue Jays on November 28 at 6 p.m.
