Not many defenses would have stopped the Gallaudet University men's basketball team on Thursday night and that was bad news for the defense that was scheduled to stop them - Lancaster Bible College. The Bison shot 64.4% (29-of-45) en route to a 74-54 victory of the Chargers in Washington, D.C.
Four Gallaudet players scored in double figures, including Brandon McMillan who had a game-high 18 points and was 8-of-9 from the floor. He was one of three players that took six shots or more and only missed once. The Bison shot 62% in the first half, while LBC shot just 23% (6-of-26). Gallaudet's 38-14 halftime lead was too much for the Chargers, especially when the Bison shot an even better percentage, 68%, in the second half.
"This was a rough one for us," Chargers' Head Coach
Pete Beers said. "It's an uphill battle for us right now and we need to get better."
Keith Keltner was one of the few bright spots for the Chargers with his 14 points and four steals.
Erich Graybill added eight points and five rebounds for the Chargers who are now 0-2 in NEAC play and 0-5 overall.
LBC has two games remaining prior to Christmas Break, which means two more chances to improve and two more chances for their first win of the 2011-12 campaign.
"We have a long way to go," Beers said. "We are looking forward to getting back to the practice floor and improving as much as we can everyday."
The Chargers will face Lebanon Valley on Wednesday night at 7:30 in Annville, Pa.
