Crimson Eagles Too Much for Chargers

It wasn't a win, but according to Head Coach Ben Bewley, it's a start.

The Lancaster Bible College men's volleyball team fell to Philadelphia Biblical University on Thursday, 3-0, but showed signs of improvement throughout the match. PBU (8-2) won, 25-16, 25-18, 25-14.

The Chargers, still looking for their first win this season, battled in each set and held a lead late in the second set, 17-16, before the Crimson Eagles strung together seven straight points and held on to win 25-18.

Jesse Corbin led LBC (0-10) with seven kills. #A.J. Longacre# added five kills and nine digs, while Justin Perkins had a team-high 14 digs. Chargers' setter BJ Boosz had 17 assists.

"I am encouraged by the way we played," Bewley said. "The guys are starting to realize that if we play hard and control the things we can control, we can be in a position to win."

Bewley added that LBC's losses are mostly coming from the team's inconsistent play more than opponents beating them.

"Our mistakes are the things hurting us, not so much the other team," Bewley said. "Hopefully the guys will see that if we keep working hard every single point, that will translate into a few more wins."

The Chargers return to the court on Saturday when they face New Jersey City and Ramapo in Mahwah, N.J.

"Both of those teams are good and it will be a challenge," Bewley said. "If we believe in ourselves and compete hard every point, we have a chance."

The Chargers will face the Gothic Knights at 1 p.m. and the Roadrunners at 3 p.m.
