Rowan Downs Chargers, 79-70

Monday night wasn't the Valentine's Day night the Lancaster Bible College team had hoped for. Turnovers and inconsistent shooting plagued the Chargers all evening long as Rowan won, 79-70.

The Profs' Roger Loatman had 27 points in 22 minutes to lead Rowan to their fourth game in six tries. Sean Hughes had 10 points and eight boards for Rowan as well.

"The little things hurt us tonight," Chargers' Head Coach Pete Beers said. "We missed a couple of assignments and didn't execute the game plan very well in the first half."

Down 11 points at halftime, the Chargers opened the second half on a 10-2 run to close the game to three with 16:41 to play. The Profs quickly responded with a 16-7 run over the next six minutes to extend their lead to 12 with 10:09 to play.

The Chargers (10-13) did all they could to get back into the game, but could not mount a sustained rally.

Erich Graybill had another strong game for LBC with his second straight double-double. Graybill's 14 points and 11 rebounds in 20 minutes helped fuel LBC's comeback early in the second half. Senior Kevin Keltner added 11 points and seven assists for the Chargers who lost for only the second time in six games.

"Big E [Graybill] is developing into a presence for us inside," Beers said. "I thought Kevin played well in the second half after struggling a little bit in the first."

Usually consistent shooter Madison Warfel had an off night for LBC, shooting just 4-of-15, though it didn't bother Coach Beers.

"Madison didn't take any bad shots tonight, they just didn't go in," Beers said. "He played hard and I will take Madison shooting those shots every game."

Rowan plays a similar style to LBC's opponent on Wednesday, Valley Forge Christian. Beers said there were still things the Chargers needed to work on for Wednesday after watching his team play Monday night.

"Almost every game this season, we have played at our opponent's pace," Beers said. "At some point this season, we have to be able to dictate the pace of play."

The Chargers will get that chance Wednesday night when they face the Patriots at 8 p.m.

Notes:
-LBC out-rebounded the Profs, 35-30. It is the third straight game the Chargers have out-rebounded their opponent. LBC has done that one other time this season, against Mitchell, Lebanon Valley and Washington Bible.

-Rowan scored 26 points off turnovers, while LBC did not score a single point off of a turnover.
