The Lancaster Bible College men's volleyball team hosted a five matches on Saturday and fell in all three of the matches they played in. Despite the losses, the team competed and showed improvement throughout the afternoon.
LBC (0-9) opened the day against Wentworth Institute of Technology and fell to the Leopards, 3-0. The Chargers lost, 25-18, 25-20, 25-18.
Justin Perkins led LBC with six kills, while
A.J. Longacre had three kills and seven digs. Down double digits in the opening set, the Chargers battled back and cut the lead to four before falling 25-18.
"I thought we played pretty well defensively," Chargers' Head Coach Ben Bewley said. "Guys were in the right spots for the most part and they never gave up on a point."
The Chargers' faced Thiel in the second match of the day and lost, 25-19, 25-13, 25-10. Longacre had six kills and seven digs for LBC, while
BJ Boosz added 12 assists and seven digs.
"A.J. is growing into a leadership role for us," Bewley said. "There are some ups and downs, but he is doing well."
The final match of the day for LBC pinned them against the Mustangs from Stevenson. The Mustangs defeated the Chargers, 25-19, 25-17, 25-18. Longacre and Perkins each had six kills for the Chargers. Boosz had 15 assists and nine digs, while
Jesse Corbin had three kills and five digs. Dan McCallister added two solo blocks to go with his one kill.
"We were pretty gassed in the third match, but I think today was a big step for us," Bewley said. "We gave a lot of effort the whole day and we were smart with a lot of our decisions."
Another bright spot for LBC was senior
Jake Clemenson who is playing his first year of organized volleyball after using all of his basketball eligibility.
"Jake is progressing very quickly," Bewley said. "He wants to learn and is willing to work on his game."
The men are back in action Thursday night when they host Philadelphia Biblical University at 7:00 p.m..
