After securing their first three-game winning streak in five years on Thursday, the Lancaster Bible College women's basketball team felt it had a good chance to make it four on Saturday at Penn St. Berks. Enter Shakiyla Stone.
Stone hit six 3-pointers and shot 8-of-11 from the floor en route to 22 points as she and the Nittany Lions held off a late LBC charge to win, 79-73.
The Chargers, who cut a 19-point second half deficit down to three two separate times, were led by
Brooklyn Wilson's 22 points. She was 5-of-10 from beyond the arc and 7-of-15 overall.
Lauren Heliger added 21 points for LBC, while
Sarah Heilenman had 13 points and 12 rebounds.
"Stone just killed us with her shooting," LBC Head Coach Doug Helsel said. "We hurt ourselves with some sloppy play, but [Penn St. Berks] just hit a ton of shots."
Despite the tough loss, Helsel said the team continued to play hard.
"
Sarah Heilenman had a great game today, especially on the glass and Brooklyn shot the ball very well," Helsel said.
The Chargers [8-9 overall, 7-5 NEAC] will travel to Phoenixville, Pa. on Monday to take on Valley Forge Christian at 7 p.m. Because Baptist Bible is not participating in the NCCAA East Region basketball playoffs, LBC can clinch the East Region's top seed with a win against the Patriots.
Notes:
-Wilson's 22 points are a career-high.
