Looking to begin the second semester with a win and gain momentum has they head into a long stretch of conference games, the Lancaster Bible College women's basketball team traveled to Clarks Summit to take on NCCAA East Region rival Baptist Bible College.
As has happened every season since 2002-03 however, the Defenders stood tall against the Chargers and won for the 11th straight time, 72-53. Kacee Rava had 19 points for BBC which improved to 7-3 this season.
Chargers' junior
Lauren Heliger had a game-high 22 points, the third time she has scored 20 or more points this season.
"Lauren did a nice job for us offensively tonight and
Brittney Becker shot the ball well too," Chargers' Head Coach Doug Helsel said.
Though they played well offensively, Helsel said the Chargers simply turned the ball over too much as LBC had a season-high 28 turnovers.
"We didn't do a very good job of protecting the ball tonight and they made us pay for those mistakes," Helsel said.
Despite the loss, Helsel said the game will serve as a wake-up call for the Chargers as they head to New York this weekend for two North Eastern Athletic Conference games against Wells and Keuka.
"Tonight showed us some things we need to work on for this weekend and going forward," Helsel said.
LBC's next eight games will be NEAC games, beginning with this weekend's back-to-back on the Finger Lakes. Their next non-NEAC game will be January 26 when they face another NCCAA East Region rival, Philadelphia Biblical University.
LBC and Wells are scheduled to tip-off at 6 p.m. on Friday night.
