Poor Shooting Plagues Chargers in Loss to Keuka

After battling Friday night for a full 40 minutes and earning their third NEAC win of the season, the Lancaster Bible College women's basketball team tried to do the same thing on Saturday afternoon in Keuka Park, N.Y. Although the effort was there, the shooting was not and the Chargers lost to NEAC North Division leaders, Keuka, 57-43.

LBC junior Lauren Heliger had a game-high 20 points, but did so on 7-of-25 shooting. She was not alone in her lack of shooting percentage as the rest of the team shot just 9-of-31[29 percent].

"We just didn't shoot well," LBC Head Coach Doug Helsel said. "We weren't very pressured when we were shooting, we simply didn't hit open shots today."

Any chance of a second half comeback was quickly squashed by the host as they began the second half on a 10-2 run, taking a 44-22 lead with 16:19 left to play.

"They hit a couple of three pointers early in the half that were big," Helsel said. "I was happy though that we stuck with them in the second half and played them even."

Brooklyn Wilson had 13 points for LBC, while freshman Sarah Heilenman added 12 rebounds.

Saturday's game wrapped up LBC's seven game road trip in which they went 3-4. Helsel and the rest of the Chargers are happy that six of their next seven games will be at Horst Athletic Center.

"We've spent less time in Lancaster than Lady Gaga these past couple of weeks," Helsel said. "We are excited to get back playing at home."

The Chargers will host Gallaudet on Wednesday at 4 p.m. The Chargers defeated the Bison, 54-49, on December 1 in Washington D.C.
