Wildcats Ruin Senior Day for Chargers

Box Score Needing to win to have a chance at postseason play, the Lancaster Bible men's soccer team came up just short. Cameron Adams' goal with 7:25 remaining gave SUNYIT a 2-1 lead and they held on to win by that same score on Saturday in Lancaster, Pa. on Senior Day.

The Chargers (2-10-2, 0-6-2) opened the scoring at the 10:58 mark when Sean Westerlund headed Dwight Shelly's corner kick into the back of the goal. It culminated a 10 minute stretch that saw the Chargers have many offensive chances.

"I thought we had great energy in the first half," Chargers' Head Coach Tom Ardt said. "Freshman Bradley Wilcox gave our team a big boost today, especially in the first half."

Wilcox's ability to track down balls and out run defenders made him dangerous throughout the entire game, something Ardt was pleased with.

"It was Brad's first 90-minute game and I think he played very well," Ardt said.

SUNYIT (8-7, 5-3 NEAC) tied the game with 3:30 remaining in the opening half on a goal by Kurreem Williams. The Wildcats came out of halftime and dominated the game for the next 45 minutes. SUNYIT outshot the Chargers, 13-1 in the second half and had six corners compared to LBC's three.

The Wildcats finally capitalized in the 82nd minute when Adams collected a ball just outside of the box and buried it into the upper left-hand corner of the goal. LBC tried to send the game to overtime, but could not get the equalizer and saw their postseason chances disappear before their eyes.

"We missed some assignments on that last goal and they made us pay," Ardt said. "They are a good team and good teams take advantage of mistakes like that."

With the loss, LBC can finish with no more than five wins this season. Prior to the season it was determined that LBC had to win six games to qualify for the NCCAA East Region Tournament. Because LBC and Cairn will not be participating in the East Region Soccer Playoffs, Baptist Bible will host Valley Forge Christian in the East Region Final.

Despite the loss and what it means for their postseason chances, Ardt said the Chargers will continue to prepare for each game the way they have all season.

"This will not change how we prepare and we will finish the season strong," Ardt said.

LBC will take on Cairn on Tuesday in Langhorne, Pa. at 3 p.m.
