Chargers Earn Draw with Highlanders, 1-1

Box Score The Lancaster Bible College men's soccer team started off the last week of its season with a tough 1-1 draw at Cairn on Tuesday in Langhorne, Pa. Freshman Bradley Wilcox scored the lone goal for the Chargers, who are now 2-10-3.

After a scoreless first half in which LBC outshot Cairn, 6-3, Wilcox opened the scoring with 26:53 remaining after getting behind the Highlanders' defense. Unfortunately for the Chargers, Cairn responded just 1:38 later when Gary Bruce knotted the game at 1-1.

Cairn held the edge in shots in the second half, 12-6, but could not get another shot past LBC goalkeeper Tim Landis, Jr. who made eight saves for the Chargers.

"I thought there was good play from both teams," Chargers' Head Coach Tom Ardt said. "I thought we controlled the first half for the most part, but that the game was pretty back-and-forth the rest of the way."

Two 10 minute overtime periods could not determine a winner and for the second straight game in this series, the game ended in a tie. This game, unlike last season's NCCAA East Region Final, ended as a tie, rather than go to penalty kicks. Despite not earning the win, Ardt was happy with how his team began its final week.

"I was pleased with the effort," Ardt said. "We played pretty well at times and I thought Brad Wilcox was a threat all game, as well as our other forwards."

LBC will host its final game of the season on Thursday at 3 p.m. when NEAC foe Gallaudet comes to Lancaster. The Chargers will then wrap up their season on Saturday at SUNY Cobleskill.
