Chargers Win Home Finale

Box Score The Lancaster Bible men's soccer team won its home finale on Thursday, defeating Gallaudet, 4-2. Senior Sean Westerlund's last game on Charger Field was one of his best as he scored two goals and assisted on another.

Kevin Forsyth opened the scoring the LBC with his first goal of the season at the 9:00 mark. Westerlund played a ball ahead to Forsyth who chipped the ball over top of Gallaudet goalkeeper Eric Setzer and into the goal. Just under 20 minutes later, Chargers' goalkeeper Stefan Smith punted a ball from the LBC goal and after a large bounce just past the center of the field, Miles Herron collected the ball and once again chipped the ball over Setzer who was running out to catch the ball.

Smith's assist as the goalkeeper was the first for the Chargers this season, the goal was Herron's sixth of the year.

Westerlund converted a penalty kick with 1:31 left in the half to give LBC a 3-0 lead. It marked the second time in four games the Chargers have scored three or more goals in the first half.

Westerlund's second goal of the game came 10 minutes into the second half as Forsyth found him at the top of the 18 and Westerlund drilled a shot into the lower left-hand corner. The Chargers appeared to be breezing to an easy victory, but the Bison scored twice in 1:01 midway through the second half to make it 4-2.

Gallaudet and the Chargers exchanged scoring chances for the rest of the second half, but neither team could convert and the Chargers had their second home win of the season.

Smith finished with two saves for his first collegiate win, while Westerlund earned his first five-point game since October 5, 2011 when he had six points (2G, 2A) in an 8-1 LBC victory over Valley Forge Christian.

LBC (3-10-3) will finish its season on Saturday when the Chargers travel to Cobleskill, N.Y. to take on SUNY Cobleskill at 3 p.m.
