One of the North Eastern Athletic Conference's top teams, Penn St. Harrisburg, came to Lancaster Bible College on Wednesday night, and although it wasn't pretty, they showed just why they are currently the class of the NEAC.
The Nittany Lions forced 26 Chargers' turnovers en route to a 76-58 win at Horst Athletic Center. Penn St. Harrisburg [16-4, 9-0 NEAC] scored 30 points off of the 26 LBC turnovers and led by as many as 24 points in the second half.
Despite all of the turnovers, the Chargers trailed by just six points, 49-43, with 12:47 left to play. Just over two minutes later however, LBC trailed by 16, 59-43, and never threatened the Nittany Lions again.
"Harrisburg got what ever looks they wanted," Chargers' Head Coach
Pete Beers said. "They didn't shoot that great, but they worked the ball around and basically did what they wanted to."
On the flip side, the Chargers struggled to find their offensive groove and struggled to string buckets together all night.
"We had too many possessions with no passes," Beers said. "We need to move the ball and make better reads."
LBC Senior
Madison Warfel had a team-high 12 points, while
Keith Keltner had 10 points and six rebounds.
Andrew Risser also chipped in with seven points and eight rebounds for the Chargers [5-13, 3-8 NEAC].
The Nittany Lions were led by David Reisinger's 23 points and nine rebounds.
While their hopes for a NEAC playoff berth are over, the Chargers sill have seven regular season games remaining and at least one NCCAA East Region game. The Chargers are hoping to advance to the NCCAA National Tournament for the third straight season.
Beers said he is interested to see how the team will respond down the stretch.
"I want to see if we are going to mail it in or if we are going to respond to adversity," Beers said. "The games aren't going to get any easier for us."
LBC's next chance to show what type of season they will end up with, will be on Saturday when they travel to Cobleskill, N.Y. to take on SUNY Cobleskill. Tip-off is scheduled for 1 p.m.
Notes:
-LBC falls to 1-24 all-time against Penn St. Harrisburg. The Chargers' lone win came on November 14, 2006 when they won, 76-61 in Middletown.
