Chargers Run Out of Gas Against Lady Lions

As February begins and the NEAC playoff races heat up, any NEAC win for the Lancaster Bible College women's basketball team would go a long way. A win against the top team in the NEAC South Division however, well that could change the course of a season.

That was the task ahead of the Chargers on Wednesday night - defeat the best, Penn St. Harrisburg, and add on to an already good week that saw them earn the NCCAA East Region's top seed on Monday night.

And through the first 20 minutes of play, it appeared that the Chargers might do exactly what they set out to do. At the half, they held a one-point lead, the Lady Lions' best player was in foul trouble and they hadn't even got a great amount of production from their top two scorers, Lauren Heliger and Brooklyn Wilson. It appeared that things could only get better in the second half.

However, the Chargers struggled out of the gate in the second half and missed their first nine shots. The Lady Lions meanwhile began to take the game over and by the time Wilson sunk two free throws with 14:00 to play, LBC's lead had become a deficit of three.

The Chargers rebounded however and tied the game at 37-37 with 8:29 to play, but another long scoring drought would spell doom for LBC as they would go scoreless for the next 4:01. In that time, the Lady Lions went on a 10-0 run and never looked back, defeating the Chargers, 60-46.

Wilson led LBC [9-10, 7-6 NEAC] with 11 points and added five rebounds. Emily Lloyd had 10 points and 10 boards, while freshman Sarah Heilenman had nine points and 12 rebounds.

Penn St. Harrisburg [12-6, 10-1 NEAC] was led by Stepahanie Yetter's 15 points and eight rebounds, while Daril Foose had 10 points and 10 rebounds.

With the loss, the Chargers' lead over fourth place Penn St. Berks is now 1 1/2 games with Berks having a game-in-hand. LBC will look to rebound on Saturday when they face SUNY Cobleskill at 3 p.m.

Notes:
-Penn St. Harrisburg played with just six players because of injuries and mandatory class.
