Chargers Win Both Matches in Big Apple

The Lancaster Bible College men's volleyball team traveled to the biggest city in the world on Friday night and swept matches against Polytechnic Institute and York [N.Y.].

In the opening match against Polytechnic, the Chargers won, 3-0 by scores of 26-24, 26-24, 25-22. Though they won, LBC Head Coach Evelyn Long said the team was not pleased with how they played in the opening match.

"We were not satisfied with the way we played," Long said. "We were happy to get the victory, but we just didn't play well."

LBC [4-2] made adjustments in the second match and Long said she was much happier with the way the team played. The Chargers defeated York [N.Y.], 3-0 by scores of 25-15, 25-15, 25-21.

"We played well and used lots of different combinations," Long said. "I thought the team chemistry was great and we converted our defense into good offensive production."

LBC junior Phil Smock played a large role in the win over York [N.Y.] as many of his serving opportunities led to LBC points.

"I thought Phil served very well," Long said. "We had lots of good rallies and many of them ended with us winning points. It started with his solid serving."

The Chargers will host their first match of the season on Monday night at 7:30 p.m. when Washington Adventist visits Lancaster.
