Box Score For having just four returners and seven players making their collegiate debut, the Lancaster Bible College women's volleyball team had one heck of a Friday night. The Chargers dropped the first two sets of the match to host Franklin & Marshall, before storming back to tie the match at 2-2. A back-and-forth fifth set finally went to the Diplomats, 19-17, but not before the young Chargers showed just what kind of team they could be this season.
F&M won, 25-15, 25-17, 23-25, 24-26, 19-17. The Chargers led 14-10 in the fifth set, but could not seal the match on the Diplomats' home floor.
LBC freshman,
Hannah Metzler had 16 kills in her first collegiate match, while
Lauren Daniels added 11 kills. As a team, the Chargers had 103 digs, the third most in school history.
"It was a great match," Chargers' Head Coach
Lauren Bewley said. "Our serve receive was awesome and once we got over the early jitters, I thought we played very well."
The Chargers return to the court on Saturday morning at 11 a.m. when they take on fellow NEAC member, Penn St. Berks. The match does not count towards the NEAC standings, as the two teams will play later in September for their conference match. LBC will also take on Elizabethtown at 1 p.m. on Saturday. Both matches will be played at F&M as part of the Crosstown Crossover.
Notes:
-LBC is now 0-6 against F&M
-The Chargers had won their last two season openers. The last time they lost was 2009 when they fell to Gettysburg, 3-0.
